If you're not familiar with Alphabay then you've clearly never ventured into the Darknet.
The Darknet or Darkweb refers to websites not listed on major search engines and more specifically to those only reachable using the Tor network. The Tor network creates an anonymous web where sites can not be found by "Clearnet" search engines and users accessing these sites can not be tracked. In combination with a VPN service it's virtually impossible to track online actions. Naturally Law Enforcement aka Nazi Gestapo, don't like this.
Alphabay a Darknet Market had been the number one go to spot for all goods declared illegal by fascist hypocritical douchebags hell bent on imposing their will on all people of earth, aka government. It vanished without notice on July 5th with many believing an exit scam to be the reason. This was not the case.
Turns out 26 year old Alexander Cazes of Canada was the elusive mastermind behind Alphabay and he had been living in Thailand to avoid extradition to the United States on charges of drug trafficking. It is not known if these charges were related to alphabay and considering AB was launched in 2014 and Cazes is reported to have been on the lam for at least eight years, it does not seem likely. No information has been released as to how this resulted in the shutdown of the website either.
Cazes was arrested July 5th at his Private House estate on Buddha Monthon Sai 3 Road in Thawi Watthana district. Since he was arrested on the same day the site went down it's possible he shut it down himself in an effort to keep authorities from discovering the location of the many servers hosting the site globally. Regardless Alexander Cazes will never see a courtroom as he was found dead in his cell in Thailand, Wednesday morning. The official report states he hung himself from a bathroom door using a towel. That he would prefer death over extradition, seems a little odd but who knows. He was living a pretty good life in Thailand in a luxurious home and driving around in several Lamborghinis.
He will be missed. However the darknet has moved on without even skipping a beat. Many other markets already in existence are eager to take on the Alphabay customer base. DeepDotWeb has been recommending Hansa and Dream Market although Hansa has suspended new user registration due to the immense flood of new customers. well known vendors have already migrated as well. So that's a big F. U.! to all law enforcement. YOU STOPPED NOTHING! You're self righteous arrogance is despicable and I look forward to the day when true justice puts an end to all of this nonsense.
