The tower of La Chorrera was completed in 1646 to prevent the enemies from obtaining fresh water from the Almendares River that flows here. You can consult more information here on Wikipedia in Spanish. I was in the area yesterday looking for some night scenes near the sea. The building seemed suitable for this purpose. Currently it is a kind of restaurant/bar, and many people gather there to cool off on Caribbean nights. I must return even earlier, to capture some of the sunset sky.
El torreón de La Chorrera fue terminado en 1646 para evitar que los enemigos se abastecieran de agua dulce del río Almendares que desemboca aquí. Pueden consultar más info aqui en Wikipedia en Español. Estuve ayer por la zona buscando algunas escenas nocturnas cercanas al mar. El edificio me pareció adecuado para este fin. Actualmente es una especie de restaurante/bar, y se reúnen mucha gente ahí a refrescar en las noches caribeñas. Debo regresar aún más temprano, para capturar algo del cielo al atardecer.
