Heraklion is more than its center.
In the historical city, inside the old city gates, you will find the neighbourhood of Agia Triada, also known historically as Kizil Tabia. This is one of the oldest and neighborhoods in Heraklion.
Long before the modern city expanded out of the Venetian walls, these streets were full of life, small markets, traditional homes, gardens, and communities from different cultures and eras.
Today, the neighborhood still preserves pieces of Venetian, Ottoman, Armenian, refugee, and Cretan history, making it a living reminder of how Heraklion evolved through the centuries.
Places like this matter because they help us understand the real identity of the city, not only through monuments, but through everyday streets, architecture, memories, and people.
This is unfortunately not only an old neighborhood, but also in many ways forgotten, but there are changes that hopefully will keep its history, and respect it without altering it.
