maybe I should stop calling it that, lol
anyway, after some small fixes and finetunings, we decided to add a chat to the website as well
currently it requires a hive account to use and a minimum threshold on your reputation to prevent unwanted spam/unwanted content
the cool thing with it is that when you drop a song link (youtube/spotify/itunes) it shows a nice preview and also loads a youtube embed link so that other chatters can instantly check what someone shared and play it there on the website through the youtube embed.
Idea here is that if you're listening to a song you wanna share with people who may be active on the site, you probably haven't scrobbled it yet, so others may not be able to find it in the scrobble history, thus by linking it in chat and allowing others to easily load it up, they can scrobble it for the first time through the chat before it even is scrobbled from outside sources through the extenion
If that makes sense, maybe? :D
Anyway, other than some styling here and there I've mostly been working on a few minigames for scrobble.life!
Now it's still in the works and some of them require curation, but to spoil some of them:
Hang the DJ
"Hang the DJ" is a Black Mirror episode (Season 4, Episode 4) whose title and thematic origin lie in the 1986 song "Panic" by The Smiths.
This is going to be a simple hangman style game where you have to guess all the correct letters to fill in song name and artist name.
Scroddle
Naming isn't that imaginative on this one, as you may have guessed it, it's a similar mechanic to wordle or hive wordle but targeted towards music with movies having its own version! The caveats here are that it's not only 5 letter words but it can range from 4 to 6.
Scroddle Mix
Name also temporary for this one.
The idea in this is that it's a lot more complicated than Scroddle, but mixed with an assist in the form of hangman. Some times the answer it's looking for is a song name, some times it's a band name, the assist is always the other.
A simple explanation:
Let's assume we're looking for the songname Crawling by Linkin Park.
You start similar like wordle but you can see it's looking for a 8 letter name, so let's say you guess "Umbrella" on your first attempt.
It'll show that you got the R correct but with a yellow color, meaning it's not in the right spot, however, it will show the R in Linkin PaRk. The same would go for the letter L and A, they're yellow and not in the right spot but the artist name will then show as L_ _ _ _ _ _ a r _.
Thus while the songs are harder to guess and may be longer in certain difficulties, it gives you hints along the way in the artist name.
This is still in experimental mode, I'm asking a few friends to test them out as they're way better at wordle than myself, but needless to say this needs to be a curated list with one answer per day in several difficulties. At least that's the plan.
Some of these games will also be based on your own scrobble history, so not just random popular songs/artists.
Which cues me to the next game I'm working on, this one will due to the above require users to have at leat 500 scrobbles in their history to play, however as it needs something to select from.
The game here is that it plays up to 3 songs in 3 tiered difficulties, it attempts to start the song somewhere where it's recognizable and play a 15 second snippet where you have 15 seconds to guess song name and artist. Bonus points for both, but just getting one correct is enough to earn some points along with a speed calculation based on how quick you were to guess it.
After you've guessed, it'll tell you your score and show the youtube embed of the song you guessed or failed to.
Anyway, these have not been as easy to implement so it's taken some extra time and prompts, but hopefully you can try them out soon, in the meantime, try get to 500 scrobbles so you can be the first to test one of them!
Let me know what you think of the games, there'll be options similar to hivewordle to post results to snaps based on how you did without spoiling the daily answers, etc.
If you have any other cool ideas, let us know and we'll see what we can do!
