Some UX improvements today given how confusing it's been for a lot of users to install the extension or even know about it.
On the homepage it now shows this if you go there as a hiver with hive keychain:
This tells you that it has noticed you have the keychain extension but aren't logged in, and also let's you know that you can use the movies & tv show section with just keychain, you don't need the extension for it.
After you connect with keychain, it'll give you this "CTA" on top of the pages:
No extension required for movies — you can log them manually below. Install the extension to also auto-track music and video.
If you decide to install the extension then, you will be automatically logged into the hive scrobbler extension on a site refresh, or you can go to the settings page of the extension to login there or check that you're logged in.
Anon Scrobbles
A big feature was implemented today, anonymous scrobbles!
When you have installed the extension and logged in with keychain, on the settings page you will now see this:
if it gives you the all okay checkmark, you can now choose what you want to make private in the next tab:
What's hidden vs visible onchain:
- Hidden (encrypted): artist, title, URL, duration, percent played, ISRC, album, year/season/episode for video kinds.
- Visible: that something was scrobbled, the kind (song/video/movie/etc.), and the timestamp. The Hive op is still public — just opaque inside.
What the server (me) sees:
Nothing readable. The streamer detects the encrypted envelope, indexes a row in a separate private_scrobbles table, and skips all the Spotify / LRCLib / YouTube enrichment lookups. We literally cannot decrypt — the key never leaves your browser.
Anon stats still count but under one single scrobbler/user in italics.
To read your own encrypted scrobbles, you can visit your logbook, i.e: https://scrobble.life/u/acidyo (replace with your username) and you will see this:
it prompts keychain to decrypt your private scrobbles for you to see.
If you have private scrobbling enabled for certain categories (music/videos, podcasts, movies/tv shows, comments/snaps remain unable as to not give away your username.
Keep in mind that you can toggle privacy on and off whenever or also click on the extension to not scrobble certain songs you're listening to right now.
Trailers
We added a way for the website to automatically fetch movie and tv show (and their season) trailers after a scrobble or manual input from wikipedia search of that movie/tv show. We still haven't fine-tuned and worked too much on this section yet as our focus has been on the music part early on, but we're getting to it.
Did more work than I planned on doing on scrobble.life tonight again, let me know if this update made things easier for you! Once we're on the webstore extension updates will be a lot more auto, but for now if you want the new features you may have to update your extension!
