St. Bonaventure: “My library is the crucifix.”
Watercolor with Ink painted by Casey.
St. Francis of Assisi: One time St. Francis was suffering from his painful eye disease, and a multitude of mice, which annoyed him making it hard for him to rest. After suffering this he began to think that it was from God Himself, and he began to give thanks to God and tell Him that he desired even greater pains and sufferings. Then God the Father spoke to St. Francis, “Francis, if all the Earth were of gold and all the oceans, rivers, and springs were balm, and if all these treasures were granted you for your present infirmity, should you not rejoice?” St. Francis answered, “Lord, I am not worthy of such a treasure.” And God said to him, “Rejoice now! With all your heart, Francis, because I have clothe you with this present infirmity, and affliction in order for you to earn this blessed treasure.”
