Echos Of Last Winter
I yearn for the long lazy summer days in an open sea-side field
Last winter was very cold - the coldest I have ever experienced in my lifetime. I had the pleasure of being both in England and the even colder Czech Republic where temperatures of - 30 °C happened for weeks at a time. London was blanketed in snow for days and days with many schools closed due to "extreme weather".
Funnily enough, the schools remained opened in the Czech Republic for most part. I think mainland Europe and Scandinavia are well versed at dealing with winter. They have winter wheels on their cars, well salted roads, and so on.
Transportation is one thing that tends to break down in the cold here in London. Not just the roads, but the trains too. In our cousin city Amsterdam, however, commuting conditions appear to improve even with the cold. When the canals freeze over, people can skate on them - and they do!
I had to go out to the shops really early this morning to buy some mouse traps. I came face to face with a mouse this morning which I have to get rid of. I am a little conflicted about that actually. I feel reluctant to harm the little thing, but I can't be bothered to catch some disease from it. Not when we're heading into winter. I can imagine this is going to be an issue this winter - rodents in the house. It's been a long summer and they have had time to breed quite a bit. It's the same with spiders and other such creepy crawlies. Now they need shelter from the incoming cold.
Talking of the long summer, I miss it so much already. I really enjoyed this year's summer. I had the pleasure of spending time on the American continent for quite a bit of it. I also enjoyed the long spells of sunshine and warmth here in England - in London and at various coastal towns. One place I went to more than once this year was Hastings. I just really love the open air there.
As we head into this winter, I'm really dreading it to be honest. I've lost the resilience I built up from many years of terrible weather. I'm now eyeing up some good deals on the Canary Islands. Perhaps I should go live out the winter over there. I would love to do that, but I can't. I still have too many responsibilities in London. Maybe one day when I'm truly location independent I can chase the summer around the world.
Peace and Love ✌🏿
