What makes for a true fan?
That is a question I find myself faced with as I discuss our favorite sports teams with my friends.
For them, they are disgusted by what goes on in the NBA, not the play itself, but the part where teams intentionally lose games in order to hopefully get a higher draft pick in order to better compete in the future.
There is no sure fire way to building a contending team, but this is one avenue for sure.

Things to change shortly?
The current incentive to intentionally lose games looks to be replaced at least somewhat in the future as the odds of getting the number one draft pick with the worst record goes down slightly with the new rules set to be implemented starting next year.
While that won't prevent teams from tanking entirely, it will certainly make it less likely that you get handsomely rewarded for intentionally losing games.
Which beaings me back to my original question...
What makes for a true fan?
Does a true fan intentionally root for his team to lose so that they can hopefully be better in the future?
Or does a true fan root for his team to win no matter the costs and no matter the odds?
That has been the debate between my friends and I the last couple of days, what do you say?
