Fairy adventure!
This post is all about the amazing fairy trail on the grounds of the Parknasilla Resort in Sneem, Co. Kerry. It is one of many such trails in Ireland.
I visited the picturesque town of Sneem the weekend before last, along with my family, to celebrate my grandmother’s 90th birthday. Our unexpected detour to the Parknasilla Resort on the way home was the cherry on the top of this wonderful occasion. Given my previously-discussed love of all things fairy- related (and my belief that they are indeed real, in some form or other 😉), my excitement went through the roof when I realised that the resort’s fairy trail had been marked by an array of adorable miniature houses.
I have to be totally honest here: when one of my relatives commented that this would be a great place to bring kids, my response was something along the lines of, 'kids? Never mind kids: the one most excited about this is me.'
It will clearly be a long time before I'm ready to be a proper adult ... but hey, a large proportion of my fellow Millenials are also failing to meet traditional goals associated with adulthood (home ownership, marriage, children, permanent and pensionable employment, building up a substantial nest egg to see us through our older years) because the economy has been stacked against us, human society has only twelve years to radically overhaul the way it operates in order to avoid absolute climate Armaggedon, and all we Millenials have to console us is our penchant for avocado toast and soy lattes.
Thus ends my random foray into dark and dramatic territory ... for now.
I have to admit that this house looks more like a very angry person than a cosy fairy dwelling place...
But other houses were cute as a button. 😊
The dedication and love that went into these wonderful handmade houses is plain to see.
I have always gained a great sense of peace by spending time outdoors, in a beautiful nature spot, and this was very much the case as I wandered through the fairy trail.
If I may be permitted to get dark and dramatic for another moment or two … this is why it breaks my heart to think that the world as we know it, with all of its natural beauty, could be gone within just one generation.
I hope we can pull together to preserve whatever parts of it can now be realistically preserved, before it’s too late.
In the meantime, I am grateful that sights like this remain, to remind us why this planet is worth fighting for.
Long may the fairies prosper. ❤
