Today was cold and slightly rainy, but the tomato seedlings for the garden I had been growing indoors seemed to be saying, “I cannot grow any more in this tiny pot!” On top of that, I have quite a few plans this week and wasn’t sure when I would be able to visit the garden again, so after checking the long-term weather forecast, I went to plant the tomatoes.
When I arrive at the garden, I always start by walking around to check how the plants are doing. This morning, I discovered that the Hive Fig — which I started growing from seed after tasting delicious figs from 's Airbnb host at Hive Fest 2024 — had finally started putting out leaves! This winter was quite cold, and the very top of the branches was brown and dried out, so I was worried about how it would survive. Seeing the new leaves was such a relief.
Another thing that made me really happy in the quiet morning garden was the asparagus. The asparagus I had transplanted from the balcony to the garden successfully sprouted again. I’m also excited to see whether the crowns I bought from the garden center will start emerging soon as well.
This year, winter was cold, and even now in May the spring weather in eastern Germany is still unstable, but perhaps the garden is slowly and steadily becoming more spring-like.
This year, I’ve started taking panorama photos because I want to document the overall shape of the garden over time.
It still looks a little bare, but next week I’m planning to plant cucurbits and beans, and it should gradually turn into a jungle.
Happy gardening, everyone!
庭につくと、まず庭の見回りから始めるのですが、Hive Fig(2024年のHive Festで さんのホストのイチヂクがおいしくて種から育て始めました)から葉っぱが出ている!
Happy Gardening!
