Steemit seems doomed, and recently I've found myself thinking more and more about steemit and where it's going, and I'm not saying it's destination is going to be down the toilet, but I have lost some of my faith in it, quite honestly. Let me ask you this; with all of the problems steemit has as a platform, where is the motivation to even post on here?
Look at the telltale signs.
Recently, what I've been noticing more and more of on steemit is a few telltale signs that indicate that steemit is not headed in the best direction. Don't get me wrong, I really love this platform and think its awesome, but I think that it's overall direction is not good based on my overall analysis.
First of all, one of the signs I am starting to notice is more and more people on this platform are powering down, many well known people for that matter. Massive amounts of people are powering down, including me. But the reason why I think this is a telltale sign is when you have all of these people powering down and preparing to leave or not blog as much, it shows that the platform will be less valued and less and less people will take this platform seriously.
I really think this platform is awesome in so many ways, but when less and less people take it seriously, it is hard for the direction of steemit to be going somewhere worth while.
Another sign is that the amounts of spam and e-beggars on this platform has been growing exponentially and this is really discouraging to many people, which is one of the factors that is causing people to power down and/or leave steemit because whenever they make a post, all they get is spam and e-beggers begging for something like an upvote or resteem or something of value. So when someone is trying to make a serious post and is trying to get a serious message out there, their message gets interrupted with all of this spam and all of the good posts are lost in a huge sea of garbage. So, spammers are another discouraging factor and is a telltale sign that steemit could be going down the toilet.
Another thing that is discouraging people not only the spam, but the fact that exposure is so hard to get on this platform because of the spam and the fact that people just ignore good content on this platform and decide to be selfish and self vote. A lot of huge whales or dolphins only vote for themselves and their whale homies and don't give a damn about anyone who is trying to rise in the food chain. That is why growth on steemit could be so hard is because its hard to get a decent vote from someone worthwhile or recognization for having good content.
Everyday I see people who spend hours on their blogs and put out quality content but NEVER get recognized, which is super sad. Steemit is an awesome platform with great potential, but there is only one problem; it is so unbalanced. And let me tell you how. I think Steemit is very unbalanced and discourages people who make awesome and legitimate content and makes it super hard to grow. I understand growing on steemit isn't an instant thing and takes time, and that you need to make connections. Connections mean a lot on this platform, and can really help your growth if you make good connections with the right people.
Consider the following:
Now keep in mind, there are many components to being a successful steemian. The components include having connections with the right people, making consistent and good content, and having exposure. Now about the exposure thing; it is HARD. Having a good exposure is really hard unless you are a dolphin or whale already. Not only do a lot of dolhpins and whales have their own clique and upvote each other and themselves, but the spam on this platform is just crazy. We have a bunch of spam bots and spam accounts on this platform spam posting as a rate faster than you may or may not know. All of the good content is drowned out by spam posts, which is not only discouraging...but SUCKS! I mean look at it from a person who tries their best to make consistent and quality posts and only gets pennies. You have these people self voting and you have so many spammers. How in the hell are you going to grow on this platform and get your word out? I understand that you shouldn't have any post earning expectations, but it is frustrating when you are trying to grow bigger and have more visibility to get your message more "world wide". Again, exposure is everything, and it is getting harder and harder to get with all of the spam drowning out all of the good posts and the massive amounts of people joining. That is why the people who joined steemit early did so well because there were less spammers and more visibility. Also, steem power and delegation also means the world too, more steem power equals more visibility/exposure. Steemit is like an unbalanced chemical bond.
Well...
Theres so many things that factor in with why steemit is so unbalanced, but I also think steemit needs to make some changes with the spammers and self voters before steemit can go mainstream, because these spammers and self voters are becoming a problem. It is preventing growth for legitimate steemians and is really annoying, to tell the truth. But also, Steemit is still like the wild west. Those who stake a claim early may get rich and there's no law enforcement. A select few are milking it for profit, but I think there's a lot of good stuff here and the community is making efforts to deal with the abuse. As it grows the influence of the whales will decrease. We just have to give it a chance.
Because everybody can upvote and get revenue out of it, the whole social media aspect seems unfair and right out broken. Whenever I look through the trending or the new section, I really have to dig to find good content that seems to be not fishy in any way or form. But it raises the question of how they can even fix this. Because to me, this seems like a fundamental flaw in the blockchain system. Note that it is not entirely bad, it's just broken. Unfortunately, steemit has become a very selfish platform (people think they will get something for free). I'm firmly in steemit for the long run and want to see it succeed! I therefore, never upvote any spam or bots, I do all of my own voting and if i see anyone taking too much steem off the platform or earning great money for not doing much I do not vote for them.
