All this time, he’d been looking somewhere past me, and I’d mistaken it for mystery, philosophical detachment, or just standard cat arrogance. Only when he got up and walked toward me did I notice the drawing on the rock — the silhouette of a cat’s face.
The sign, come to think of it, had been perfectly clear.
