Located on the ridge of the Bukit Barisan mountains, Tanoh Gayo presents a million natural charms. The plateau that stretches from Bener Meriah, Central Aceh to Gayo Lues is also rich in diverse cultures and cultures.
Coffee plantations became the foundation of life for most people there. Almost all of the Gayo people earn a living by coffee farmers.
In Tanoh Gayo, the Netherlands used to build a government base in Takengon which is located right on the shores of Lake Laut Tawar. Later, the city developed into an economic and administrative center and became the capital of Central Aceh.
Besides coffee, horses are very familiar with the life of the Gayo people. Formerly they even used horses as a means of transportation, and plowed the fields. Along with the times, now horses are only used for tourist activities and competing on the racetrack.
Visiting Tanoh Gayo is incomplete before stopping at Lake Laut Tawar. This tourist destination offers beautiful scenery, like a green rug that stretches in parts of Takengon.
