Remembering this amazing and super fun day with friends on January 16, 2017. We had an Extreme Freestyle session with Guenter Mokulys, Rene Shigueto, Felix Jonsson, and Renan Albuquerque at Pedra Bonita, the best classic spot for new extreme freestylers in Rio. If you’re reading this and want to come to Rio, and also want to start in Extreme Freestyle safely, I would love to go with you.
However, if you prefer to start on your own, here are some safety rules to keep Extreme Freestyle Skateboarding safe and positively admired:
Research the environmental protection rules of the place you are going.
Check the weather.
Always let someone know where you are going and when you intend to return.
Always have the company of someone who knows how to help you if anything goes wrong, and always carry basic items such as rope, light food, water, a knife, and a first aid kit.
Hire a regulated guide specializing in natural attractions whenever you explore a new spot.
Ensure the spot is safe and can support your weight.
Never do anything if you are afraid.
Consider all possible mistakes.
In a dangerous situation, only do what you master 100%; this means you should be able to do it without error at least ten times in a row in a similar secure environment.
Always keep your body directed to a safe place in case you make a mistake, and avoid exposing yourself to factors that can cause errors. When you master a maneuver 100%, you learn the direction your body will go if you miss it and the factors that can cause mistakes.
Only maneuver with rope if you have knowledge of vertical techniques.
Respect all life forms; never mistreat or maneuver on an animal, fungus, or plant.
Never leave garbage.
Never take anything from nature.
Never feed the animals.
