Golem is a huge decentralized network of computers (superсomputer) which enables us to perform tasks which require huge computing power
It's based on Etherium blockchain and it uses its own token - GNT (Golem Network Tokens).
It's an Open source platform
There are three types of users
- Providers - those who provide their unused computer power and get paid for it
- Requestors - those who ask to carry out tasks and pay Providers
- Authors - those who develop this platform further
Its available for anyone (with a computer)
It could be used to do science-related tasks (DNA analysis, BigData, neural networks), to render physical models, for machine learning ...
The goal is to create a global market of computing power
IMHO
Personally I hope this platform will help to solve some biological (DNA-related) problems
It seems to me that it's that case when you can literally buy your time and save it
