Hi Steemians & Artists!
Work on this painting began with the fact that I was asked to make a copy of the masterwork by Henryk Siemiradzki "Christ in the house of Martha and Maria."
It was the painting for a finished niche in a wall of original shape. Since it was supposed to make changes to the composition, I suggested to make an original painting based on Semiradsky’s masterwork.
The work began with finding composition as usual. There was not a lot of work, because the plot, composition, color, size and shape were already set. I was only allowed to play with textures a little.
In proportions, my picture is wider than the original, so I introduced another character - Lazar, Martha and Maria's brother, into the plot.
I made several sketches on the computer.
I gathered my friends, appointed roles for them and started working. Then I performed sketches and etudes from them.
Also I made the cardboard with drawing in the original size.
And I started to work on the canvas. I began to paint with acrylic paints, applying the technique of tashism and textured pastes.
I finished the artwork with oil paints for finer and more detailed study. It was a thin layer of oil paints. Beforehand, I fixed the acrylic layer of paint with varnish for better connection of layers of different materials.
Customers were very satisfied and we continued our cooperation. But I'll tell about it in the next article...
