This was inspired by an Italian legend that I came across while working as a tour guide on the Amalfi Coast… Near the beach of Vietri sul Mare, the sea god Poseidon provides two magnificent rocks, sacrificed to experience the courage and love of two brothers to save a girl from the fury of the waves. Legend has it, that one day in the sea, a siren fell in love with two beautiful brothers while tending their flock of sheep near the beach of Vietri. Enchanted by the beauty of these boys, the siren began to sing her magical song to lure the boys into the water. Mesmerized by her song they swam into the blue rocking waves to save her. But suddenly the sea grew stormy and the crushing waves pushed them down into the deep blue ocean, their flock following them. The two beautiful brothers clung to one another in vain and drowned lovingly in each others arms. The king of the sea could not save them , but impressed by such courage and love, he transformed them into two rocks that have since then been called “Due Fratelli” and the stones on the beach are still considered the little sheep.
