Life used to be so simple and peaceful at times. Mornings especially felt beautiful when all the family members would gather around the same table to have breakfast together. Back then there was no rush and no one had any worries. Everyone’s faces showed calmness and their hearts were full of warmth for one another. In those moments our beloved Grandfather would sit with the newspaper in hand and read the news aloud to everyone with great enthusiasm.
Grandfather way of reading the newspaper was also remarkable. He didn’t just share the news he would also give his opinion on it sometimes joke around and sometimes even give us advice. We all listened to him attentively and occasionally asked questions too. Those moments weren’t just about gaining information, but about love learning and sitting together. That time was truly precious, though perhaps we didn’t fully realize its importance back then.
But now times have changed. Grandfather is no longer with us and along with him those beautiful traditions seem to have been lost somewhere too. That morning scene where everyone sat together is no longer seen. Someone is in a hurry to get to college while someone else is worried about reaching the office. Everyone is busy with their own work and those peaceful conversations have been left far behind.
Nowadays, mobile phones have taken the place of newspapers. Everyone is busy with their own screens and they read the news by themselves too but that joy that warmth that pleasure of sitting together and listening is no longer there. Now there’s no one who gathers everyone, shares the news, makes them laugh and teaches them.
It’s true that time never comes back but those memories can be kept alive in our hearts. Perhaps we should try again to spend time with our family sit together talk so that future generations can also value these beautiful moments. Because real happiness lies in staying close to each other not just to screens.
