Amazing creations of snow leopards live on the Ukok plateau in Gorny Altai. To date, there are about five individuals. These data are obtained through the use of automatic surveillance cameras.
In August 2017, scientists installed the first equipment. Since then, more than 300 photographs have been received. These are very valuable shots since before that there was not a single recorded evidence of their presence.
Three out of five snow leopards are female and two kittens. These photographs became sensations in zoological circles. The same camera captured two males of this rare species. It follows from this that the plateau territory requires considerable protection in order to protect the "Red Book" animals from the hands of poachers. Scientists also note low the number of herbivores in these regions. So what is the important question of what do the irbees eat?
The local population is also involved in working with cameras and protection. One of the villagers responsible for the place where the leopards live for the year can receive a reward if all animals remain alive and healthy. Due to unemployment, in the past, many residents of these places were poaching. Now, they have an incentive to make money in a legal way - by protecting nature.
This approach has proven itself well not only in the Altai Republic. Due to this, the number of rare animals gradually begins to increase. We will hope that the positive trend will continue, and next year we will see a new offspring.
