Hello, steemians, and welcome to my garden plot, eh!
I decided to take a look at my community garden plot this afternoon to see how it was holding up with the heavy rain we've had in the last 2 days.
Everything seems to be doing well in the plot right now, for the most part. A couple of my squash plants don't look very good, but most of them seem to be doing well. Most of the beans have sprouted and are growing well now, I had a really good germination rate on those.
Here's a look at the garden plot. You can see that the corn is doing well. You can see a few of the bean plants in this picture, and a couple of the squash plants among the corn.
A picture from the other end of the plot. You can see that my other plot is still covered with black plastic to kill the grass that was so overgrown in the plot. That plot had not been used in 2 years and was full of grass and weeds. The chicken wire fence around the plot is to keep the rabbits out of the garden.
Here's a look at the row of corn on the east end of the plot. You can see the bean plants between the corn plants. You can also see one of the squash plants at the end of the board between the rows of corn.
There's no point in putting bean plants between the inner rows of corn, they would just get shaded out by the corn as it grows. The beans use the corn as a trellis as they grow, but they need the sunlight to grow well. I plant beans between the corn plants on the east row, the west row, and across the south end of the rows so that they will get sunlight as they grow. Theoretically, the squash plants are supposed to shade out the weeds between the corn, but it doesn't really work out that way very well. Perhaps pumpkins would work better with their big leaves.
This is a package of the type of corn that I planted in this garden plot. I just stuck the empty package on one of the garden posts in case someone was curious about what I planted. Of course, my camera focused on the background instead of the package, but you can still read it.
Well, that's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
Thanks for stopping by my page and checking out my post, eh!
