Sometimes, reading the news can leave us with a knot in our stomachs and the feeling that humanity keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. That sense of melancholy is a reflection of our empathy and our desire to see a better world. I hope you enjoy it.
A Cuppa, a Smile, and a Brighter Day
The papers paint a dreary scene, all full of fuss and fight,
as if we’ve gone and lost our way, and traded wrong for right.
We are a stubborn lot, we humans, bored of peaceful days,
and making quite a proper muddle in our clumsy ways.
But wait a tick, let's pause a while, and take a breath or two,
there’s still a lot of goodness left in folk like me and you.
So come on, keep your chin up high, and put the kettle on!
Let's talk about the silver lining, now the dark is gone.
It takes all sorts to make a world, that’s what they always say,
so let’s be kind and tolerant, and send the gloom away.
Let’s pull our socks up, muck right in, and lend a helping hand,
and spread a bit of cheer across this green and pleasant land.
We’ll weather any stormy sky if we just pull together,
with warmth and understanding that outlasts the rainy weather.
So chin up, mates! Let’s carry on, with hope that’s bright and new,
because a world of peace and love is up to me and you!
I would like to invite my poet friend to read his contribution, if time allows. Also thanks to
