I just returned from a trip to Kizhi's bases in Onega Lake.
A trip to 1000 km one way. The total distance is 2500 km. I must say that the roads are very good. I remember riding six years ago in the northern direction and sometimes there was a complete absence of roads. This time, everywhere asphalt and very good quality. It is very nice.
In the photo it is an onega gull. There are a lot of them on the lake. Many of them sit on the nests where their eggs are. When you come close to the seagull's nest, an awful ruckus is arranged. And some even dive at you, try to drive you away. And they're also trying to bomb you. In general, they will defend themselves.
Northern nature is beautiful. In addition, we are very lucky with the weather.
Onega Lake is located in Karelia. This is the edge of a thousand lakes.
The main means of transportation is a boat. There are a large number of islands, which otherwise can not reach. On such islands there are villages, in which now no one lives anymore. They are visited as dachas.
The place of our basing was the settlement Velikaya Guba. Velikaya Guba is a village in the Medvezhiegorsky district of the Republic of Karelia, the administrative center of the Velikogubsky rural settlement, a historic settlement.
It is located on the eastern shore of the Great Lakes of the Onega Lake.
The village of Velikaya Guba is a traditional settlement for Zaonezhye, consisting of a group of villages: Verkhovye, Repny Posad, Pogost, Mogletsy, Tarasy. All these villages are mentioned in one of the scribe books of 1563, the earliest surviving document of this territory. Thanks to the descriptions of the Moscow scribes, today we know how many villages there were, who lived there, what he did.
By the XIX century, the village of Velikaya Guba - a rich settlement, in the center of which are majestic two-storeyed rich peasant houses and houses of local merchants. At the moment, the traditional building has remained fragmented, so in the village of Verkhovye there is an architectural monument of local significance - the house of Kostin.
But there are no wooden churches here, the inhabitants of such a large village could afford to put in the nineteenth century instead of old wooden, more expensive and reliable stone.
Now It's still big settlment but people leaves this place because there's no much work there. People come to big cities and village is dying.
I hope such things gonna change.
About nature
I was impressed by the natural beauty of this region. Despite the large number of mosquitoes, I think I will definitely come here again. In the meantime, I have the opportunity to disassemble all the photographic material that was formed during my trip.
I am pleased to publish some pictures of nature.
