"For much I rejoiced when the brothers came and gave testimony of your truth, of how you walk in the truth."
Greetings my friends of steemit today I want to share this small studio with all of you I hope you like it.
This was the testimony that other people, such as evangelists and itinerant teachers gave to the apostle John, highlighting the kindness and kindness of Gaius, and how his life was governed by the truth of the doctrinal teaching of the apostles. Not only was he a resource man, but he was also very generous with the other brothers in the faith. This was the testimony of all those who had been lodged in his house. In those times, in the Roman world they did not have hotels or hostels like we have today, even in small cities. Generally the small inns existing in the empire, were places that did not meet conditions of hygiene of any kind, nor comforts, and in some cases, were places enabled for the practice of sin. So the custom was to accommodate Christians who traveled in private homes.
For this reason, John wrote: I greatly rejoiced when the brothers came and gave testimony of your truth, of how you walk in the truth. This was therefore a stimulating testimony about Gaius, for the apostle. The truth here was really the doctrine or teaching of the apostles. The article here should be deleted to translate to walk in truth. This era is not only a reference to his doctrine, but also to his conduct. The mark or sign of a believer is to live in that truth. The truth is here the predominant thought. The greatest good that identifies a Christian is whether he is walking or living in the truth and in the light, in the light of God. And that walk, that living is also evidenced through an ethically correct behavior and love towards the brothers in the faith of Christ.
Those who arrived in the city of Gayo at that time, in the exercise of their ministry of preaching and teaching, would have verified that the doors of their house were fully open for the true believers. Gaius had the spiritual gift of discernment, and he could perceive who were genuine believers, and who were like him but were not. He could know if those travelers believed in the deity of Christ, in his birth of a virgin, and in his redemptive work on the cross, completed by his bodily resurrection from the grave. In the person of Christ was the key that opened his home for a generous hospitality to those who showed him his brotherly love in the Lord. Let's continue reading now verse 4 of this third epistle of John:
"I have no greater joy than hearing that my children walk in the truth."
John had been the pastor of the church in Ephesus and had led many people to the Lord. At his advanced age, it was therefore a joy for him to hear about his converts, scattered throughout Asia and even living in the truth that he had taught them that, as we said before, it consisted in living according to the apostolic teaching. and practicing brotherly love for their spiritual brothers in the faith.
