Ch-ch-ch-chia pet, the pottery that grows!! Ch-ch-ch-chia!!!! Remember the Holiday Season of 1984? No? No worries me neither. I was only 1.5 years old back then.
But 1984 was the year the first chia pet came to life. I am sure that when you were a small kid you had one at some point too... maybe you even had the whole collection including a kitty, puppy, and trees... I was one of those weird kids that had them all ;)
Though this video is not the original 1984 commercial clip, it definitely harks back nostalgically to my childhood
Today, however, chia seeds are quite popular but for whole other reasons than sprouting them into lovely pets and trees.
A 1 ounce (28 grams) serving of chia seeds contains 11 grams of fiber, 4 grams protein, and 9 grams healthy fats (mostly omega-3s). Furthermore, one ounce of these tiny super seeds house about 18% of our daily need of calcium, 30% manganese, 30% magnesium, and 27% phosphorus. Apart from that, chia seeds also packed with decent amounts of zinc, vitamin B1-2-3, and potassium.
Calorie for calorie, chia seeds are one of the world's best sources of several important nutrients our body needs on a daily basis.
Superstar food! I would say yes to that! And they are super fun to cook with. I just love chia seed jam and pudding. Especially this one with passion fruit, mango, and kiwifruit!
