Hace días que recibí un encargo para re diseñar una pieza, un vestido de un corte que a mí, particularmente, no me gusta porque siempre me ha parecido extraño; pero no era unicamente el diseño, sino que la talla no era la correcta para la niña a la que regalaron el vestido.
Me señalaron un vestido que era la talla y diseño en que tendría que transformar la otra pieza. Así que me puse manos a la obra.
A few days ago I received a commission to redesign a piece, a dress with a cut that I particularly don't like because it has always seemed strange to me; but it was not only the design, but also the size was not correct for the girl to whom the dress was given.
They pointed out a dress that was the size and design that I would have to transform the other piece into. So I put hands to work.
Este vestido corto tendría que transformarlo en uno semejante al azul marino con lunares.
This short dress would have to be transformed into one similar to navy blue with polka dots.
I managed to disassemble the dress into 4 pieces: a piece corresponding to the skirt, a piece corresponding to the chest, a piece corresponding to the gather on the shoulders and a piece corresponding to the bottom.
Usando el vestido de molde empecé a cortar la pieza del pecho ajustando bien el cuello y las mangas con 2cm de ancho a cada lado y 4cm mas de largo para el torzo. De la misma manera ajusté el tamaño del forro/fondo blanco.
Using the pattern dress I started to cut the chest piece adjusting the neck and sleeves well with 2cm width on each side and 4cm longer for the torso. In the same way I adjusted the size of the white lining/background.
Cosí el fondo a la pieza del pecho intentando dejarla como venía de fabrica, aún con la etiqueta que no quise retirar. Así quedó un acabado mas limpio y no tuve que hacer dobladillos.
I sewed the bottom to the chest piece trying to leave it as it came from the factory, even with the label that I did not want to remove. This left a cleaner finish and I didn't have to hem.
Empecé a medir y calcular bien la cantidad de fruncido de la falda para que no sobrara ni faltara, cuendo estuvo todo hilvanado pasé la costura recta.
I began to measure and calculate well the amount of gathering of the skirt so that there was neither excess nor lack, when everything was basted I passed the straight seam.
Cosí la falda fruncida a la pieza del pecho y como quedaba muy simple sin mangas pensé adornar un poco el vestido floral. Por suerte sobraba un tramo de tela que correspondía al fruncido que tenía en cuello el vestido original.
Cosí al cuerpo unas alas mariposa, pero al ver que quedaban muy largas tuve la idea de doblarlas sobre sí mismas lo que no solo las acortó sino que las abultó y les dió bastante firmeza.
I sewed the gathered skirt to the chest piece and since it was very simple without sleeves I thought I would embellish the floral dress a bit. Luckily, there was a section of fabric left over that corresponded to the ruffle on the neck of the original dress.
I sewed some butterfly wings to the body, but seeing that they were very long I had the idea of folding them on themselves, which not only shortened them but also made them bulky and gave them a lot of firmness.
Finalmente, antes de entregar el pedido, noté que faltaba el lazo que es común en este tipo de vestidos y lo terminé cosiendo con el resto de la tela que era del fruncido de los hombros del vestido inicial.
Así, con una cliente satisfecha y con experiencia ganada termina esta publicación que tengo el gusto de compartir con ustedes.
Finally, before delivering the order, I noticed that the bow that is common in this type of dress was missing and I ended up sewing it with the rest of the fabric that was from the gathering of the shoulders of the initial dress.
