So this is a law I’m kind of curious about and don’t have an opinion on because there’s a few things going on.
California is creating a law giving foster kids more rights concerning their own medical treatments, taking some of the decision power away from their foster parents.
Two sides of this coin.
One, foster parents tend to come and go with some kids and shouldn’t have control over those kids medical choices; it’s should be between the doctor and the kid.
Or
They’re kids, If it’s something serious how is the kid going to know what the right choice is if they’re in a position where they’re scared. Sometimes a second opinion from a grown up should be considered.
The law should strike some sort of balancing act, put some safeties in place that give the kids autonomy but also an avenue of they’re too scared to figure out all their options.
The debates by the lawmakers continue on so it’ll be interesting to see what they actually come up with.
