Alternative grilled food with an air-fryer method.
Do you like grilled snacks? Oh, I like it. Imagine, the smokey taste that blends perfectly with the creamy sauce that permeates the grilled food. It would be sooo perfect! I like the results of the cooking. But I say no to the unpleasant process of grilling. I would imagine there would be a lot of smoke or a burnt layer from the surface of the food being grilled. Wait..., wait? How about a smokey taste through the air fryer? Let's see!
Having an air fryer is one of the joys in the culinary world that is irreplaceable. I can replace many ways of cooking with just this one cookware. I can roast food, fry food with less oil, and get a smokey taste effect without a lot of smoke. Oh, I sound like someone offering an air fryer product to a customer. Oops. This is based on my own experience. I was very happy when I got an air fryer as a wedding present from my friend.
I can cook tubers to complement the main course, or even make snacks like fritters, as well as make breakfast which can save time. So, since the arrival of the air fryer in my life, I rarely use the oven in terms of preparing daily meals.
Corn Air Fryer
Say yes to plant-based bbq! One of them is corn. With a slightly sweet and savory taste, it is perfect for serving as a meal to complement your leisure time. With the right sauce, this air fryer corn will also taste perfect. This time, with coconut milk sauce as a complement.
Using Sweet Corn Type
A simple but delicious snack that we usually make in my area is using sweet corn variety. This type of sweet corn is a type of corn that is intended to be harvested to be eaten at a young age. Meanwhile, there are types of corn that are intended for drying, for making popcorn, or even intended as poultry food.
So to make a deliciously simple snack from corn, we have to use sweet corn. This type of sweet corn also looks to have a paler color than other types of corn.
I'm so grateful that the universe sent me fresh corn from my aunt's plantation. My aunt sells sweetcorn for a price of $1 for 3 kg. It's very cheap here. In other places like the market, the price is around $0.5 for 1 kg. Prices are quite different.
The sweet corn I got was fresh, just harvested from the garden. I haven't peeled the corn skin yet. Well, it's best to store corn in a state where the skin hasn't been peeled so that it lasts longer and still looks fresh. Corn meat does not become wrinkled if we store it with the skin.
The Ingredients
- 2 sweet corn
For the seasoning sauce:
- 50-100 ml of thick coconut milk
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- additional (chopped celery, lemon zest)
How To Make It.
Preparing the Corn
Peel the corn and make sure the fine hairs on the corn are also removed. If you use corn without skin, it will save more time. Currently, many practical skinless corn products are sold in the market. But my advice, you should avoid packaged corn that is sold in modern markets. It's better to choose the fresh one at traditional markets for a more original and healthier taste without added preservatives.
Cut Corn Into Small Pieces.
After the corn is peeled and cleaned, then cut the corn into small pieces. For one large piece of corn like the one I used in this recipe, I can get 4 pieces of corn.
When cutting corn, don't forget to boil the water that will be used to boil the corn.
Boil Corn
Add the corn pieces to the boiling water. Add enough salt to boil the corn, to maintain the corn's sweet taste. Boil the corn for 15 minutes.
After the corn is removed, drain the corn for the next cooking process with the air fryer. Also, so that the remaining cooking water on the corn doesn't mix with the sauce that will be spread.
Make Coconut Milk Sauce
Mix coconut milk with coriander powder and salt. Stir well. Prepare the sauce spreader.
Spread Coconut Milk Sauce On Corn Cob.
Make sure there is no more cooking water left on the corn. Then spread the corn evenly with coconut milk sauce. When preparing corn, don't forget to heat the air fryer for about 10 minutes.
Cook Corn Using Air fryer.
Neatly arrange the corn that has been smeared with sauce in the air fryer basket. Then cook them for the first 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, Turn the corn over and cook for another 15 minutes for even browning. If you want, you can also add another drizzle of sauce to the corn when you turn the other side of the corn.
SERVE!
Serve the air fryer corn while warm. When it cools, the corn will look a bit wrinkled, but will still taste good. You can add a sprinkling of sesame seeds if you like that.
Surprisingly, the family members at my mother-in-law's house really liked the corn version I made. They said the seasoning sauce I made was brilliant. They had never eaten anything like it at any street food or cafe.
Well, yeep, this is my own creation menu because I really love anything about coconut milk. I'm glad this creation worked well and produced the flavors it deserved.
For the record, the coconut milk that I use has a thick texture so it is creamy like butter. You can also replace coconut milk with vegan butter or yogurt. But I prefer to use coconut milk because it has a more unique savory and creamy taste compared to butter. So, what do you guys think about this version of corn?
