For starters, I'm searching for foods with a good amount of calcium. Clams for one have 175 mg for 20 of them.
Almonds for another have 243 mg of calcium for one cup of sliced ones.
If you are like me, and like dairy, but get a little bloated from it... there are plenty of foods out there with calcium! Last I spoke to my doctor, he was more concerned with my Vitamin D intake than calcium. However, I plan on getting a decent intake of it for now.
I go to him in October so more to come then!
Other steps I'm following (per doctor)
- take vitamin D pill daily
- weight bearing and strength training exercises
- sitting correctly at computer (eye level) to help with neck and posture
I've slacked in all of the above. Do you sometimes open your eyes to a health problem you know of all along, because of someone becoming ill? ..... I'm on it now!
I'll be doing more research on this topic and will post further on steps I am taking to address osteopenia.
