Hello Steemians! I hope everyone’s doing well. I have a question for you…
Have you been to Baguio City? Well, if not, you may read this blog and somehow feel its beauty.
Baguio City is the summer capital of the beautiful country of the Philippines. It is one great place to spend your vacation because of its blue skies that you can almost reach, the ambiance of foggy afternoon, and cold evenings that are perfect for cuddling and romance. You will surely fall in love with the city because aside from its natural beauty and fresh cold air, Filipinos in Baguio are friendly and nice.
There are actually a lot of perfect destinations when you’re in Baguio but let me just share to you the places I’ve been when me and my family were there.
So we stayed in one of the prestigious hotels in Baguio, The Manor Hotel at Camp John Hay. The hotel is indeed an elegant and peaceful place to stay in. It is well blended with the natural beauty of nature with of course, the element of luxury and the spirit of their personnel hospitality.
On the night we arrived there, we went to SM City Baguio to have our dinner. I was amazed because the mall is built as an open space. That means there’s no need for a centralized air condition because the weather is too cold already. Even the hotel we stayed in doesn’t have air conditioners in their rooms.
One great destination in Baguio is the Tam-awan Village, where you can witness indigenous aesthetics and Cordilleran craftsmanship. There we saw Ifugao houses, and different kinds of art in the gallery like paintings made by our ancestors. It is a place that fosters the respect and pride in the cultural heritage of Cordillerans.
Baguio trip will never be complete if you haven’t been to their famous strawberry farm. Baguio is the number 1 producer of strawberries in the Philippines and the farm is found in La Trinidad, Benguet. There you can enter the wide farm full of strawberries and even fresh lettuce and tomatoes. You can even experience strawberry picking with the whole family. To tell you guys, the best strawberry ice cream I have tasted is the strawberry ice cream in Baguio. It is made up of real fresh and sweet strawberry topped in a crispy sugar cone! A thought of it actually makes me crave right now!
Another place to go in Baguio that you would regret to miss is one of the top most haunted places in the Philippines. It is the Diplomat hotel in Dominican Hill. That was the last destination we headed on the first day of our tour. There are lots of documentaries about this hotel and despite of it being haunted, people still want to see the ruins of the previously grand hotel in Baguio. According to history, during the World War II, Japanese invaded the property and made it their headquarters. They say there were plenty of priests and nuns that were beheaded in this place during the World War II. That is why during night time, there are headless apparitions and strange sounds like crying people coming from the building. If a while ago I craved for strawberry ice cream, now I’m having goose bumps because of the creepy hotel. Setting aside the haunted stories, you know what, the largest tablet of the Ten Commandments is established in the Dominican hill near the hotel.
We also toured around the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). PMA is the training school of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is where the bravest Filipinos have their military training to be the best soldier of the country. It feels great to be welcomed to explore the grounds, the view of training cadets, the PMA museum and roam around the area to see the vintage tanks and other military weapons. There we experienced to enter in the military tanks as if we were the ones driving it. We even touched the historical weapons used by the army during war.
Baguio is indeed a great place to spend your vacation and a place you wouldn’t want to miss if you’re here in our country! Philippines and all Filipinos must be proud of it. :)
