This was my pre-marathon half-marathon that made me question my life choices.
Check out my YT edit. I utilized some new techniques!
Started at Southside Lions East Park and ended up losing the greenway at Jack White trailhead. Made my way back to MLK Park for the 13.1 mile finish in 2:55:50 minutes.
Now, this would be a reasonable pace for the marathon but that assumes I could do the same thing twice in a row. At the end of this run, I could feel how much of a challenge that would be.
In any case, it was a good run so hope you enjoy this stylized edit I created using Filmora Go.
Additional context from FB:
Running my first marathon this weekend Godwilling. My only goal is finishing before the 7 hr cutoff.
As a final prep, I put in 13.1+ miles today in 3 hours but had a few moments in which I had to open navigation to ensure I was on course of the Salado Greenway. I started at Southside Lions Park East and lost the track at Jack White trailhead.
I slowed to over the max allowable pace after mile 10 but there were a couple factors that contributed. First the sunset around 6:30 pm so I had to lose the earbuds and pay attention to my surrounding. I def feel like I get boosts from good tunes so that worked to my disadvantage.
Next, it started getting colder that I could readily see my breath fog. This served to demoralize me a bit considering my sweats were completely drenched.
Oh and I had an encounter with a big ol skunk that reared up its tail ready to spray me no doubt. I wanted to get a pic but instead got out of their quick rather than risk getting stenched.
Also, due my headlamp, I could see each and every critter watching me along the path. I will say that on the Jack White coming out I saw eyes that were very far apart to be a coon. Maybe it was one of those black bears we been hearing about, a goliath coon or a chupacabra. Who knows!
Anyways, it was a good run all things considered. One of these days I will complete the Salado Creek Greenway but just know now that I better start early if I hope to finish before dark.
I took some headcam vids before it got too dark. Will be editing and sharing tomorrow. Whether or not I succeed in finishing the marathon, I will say it's been worth it for the journey of preparing my body for the challenge.
Final thoughts for Hive / Actifit
I don't know if I can do it. As I mentioned, life choices...
Should I have chose the half marathon?
So here's the deal. I am confident that I can finish the halfer under the time limit whereas there IS uncertainty on whether I can complete the full in time and on pace. This marathon is strict about cut offs and there will be three along the course, the last being at mile 11.
Even if my pace isn't closely monitored after that point, I still need to make under 7 hours. Considering that I ran this simulated half marathon in about 3 hours, that would be a tall order and a significantly greater probability of failure.
Even so, I am inclined to attempt the marathon even if I may fail just for the training and challenge. On the other hand, I have not ran that length. Even though I feel like I can run forever, maybe this will be different. There is a lot of contemplating going on in my ol noggin.
Hell, that's enough for tonight. I need to recover so my wife stops making fun of how I am hobbling down the stairs. Yeah I am most definitely feeling it today!
Thanks for stopping by! ✌️
P.S. My new temp phone borked the Actifit step counter. I actually broke a new record!!
