Most of us never take time out of our day to look around and see what is actually happening.
I know I have better things to do than stick my nose into things better left unsniffed.
But, where is the disruption in that, eh?
The reality around us goes largely unexamined.
It's not a bad thing, it cuts down on the boredom, I guess.
But, at some point, we should probably exit our little bubbles and look around.
Since most of the folks that will read this have only been here since hf21, or shortly before, the way things look are mainly 'just how things are'.
It is what it is.
And, I'm mostly happy with how things are.
However, when I see overpowered people taking advantage of underpowered people it sets up a clamor in my head.
Makes me have to sound off.
The teakettle blowing its whistle, as it were.
I would like to see some improvement in the transparency community.
Most folks miss what I am about to show you.
It never occurs to us that this data could be counter to our own best interests, and more broadly, the interests of us all.
This is in no way an attack on the select few mentioned.
Their actions are only in keeping with what most of us would do in the same situation.
Successful crapitalism requires maximization to dominate other maximizers.
This principle is well known and flourishes at the highest levels of power.
This is what makes what is happening here not in the best interests of the broader majority.
Centralizing control is rarely a good idea.
Not just in the hive, but widely in any community.
Take a look at this chart.
Most of us look at this chart and think, 'well good for them', never looking deeper into the numbers.
There was about 725khive available for curators in February.
~9% of that went to #1.
~8.5% went to #2.
The top 5 got about 29% of the hive available to all the curators curating.
~53% is named on this chart.
Now, I don't know how many curators there were in February, but I'm pretty sure it is much more than 40.
Maybe somebody that is as interested in transparency as some of the rest of us will give us a comment elaborating on the questions I leave unasked and unanswered.
But, don't hold your breath, eh?
If you can reproduce these two reports, that would be outstanding.
@statsmonkey/biggest-upvoters-3132018---part-ii
~30% of the pool goes to the top 10 votes, more to the top 10 voters.
These numbers are in need of updating.
@bitgeek/payout-stats-report-for-15th-december-2017--part-i
This report had the most transparency of all, imo.
But, I guess it is heavy on sql data and was taxing the system.
If you are person with your own database, you could probably pull these numbers without undue drain on your resources, but will you?
Probably not.
This top heavy distribution of the hive is an anchor on adoption, iyam.
Who buys a lead balloon like that?
That is all, for now, you may resume your otherwise mundane day.

Don't abuse their willingness to work for the collective for what little we give them, eh?
Without them, none of this exists.
