Omoyele back in 2011
Did you know that a Nigerian presidential candidate is accepting bitcoin to help fund their campaign? No, neither did I until today. But it looks like journalist Omoyele Sowore, founder of Saraha Reporters, is accepting donations in bitcoin. He also has a gofundme campaign.
I don't really know much about Nigeria politics so hope those of you who do will help clarify the pros and cons of this candidate, and who his main rivals are and why. I understand he is more an outside candidate with only a small chance of winning right now, but of course we all know politics can produce surprises.
What I know
- Omoyele is campaigning on a platform of respect towards all Nigeria's religions, be that Christianity, Islam or Traditional African beliefs.
- He believes the current president has not done enough to combat Boko Haram.
- His campaign is driven primarilly by interest from Nigeria's youth.
- His is currently outside any given political party, but claims several parties will work in coalition with him and he is already in talks with them.
- He has degrees from both the University of Lagos and Columbia University in the City of New York.
- In 2005, in a small Manhattan room, he founded SarahaReporters media.
