Light Painting in the Desert
During my trip to the Desert my friend and I we would try our hand at Light painting. Light painting requires long exposure on a camera and some lights that you can freely move around space. My camera doesn't have the greatest low light capabilities but I did my best.
We attempted to use chargeable Christmas lights, lighting brillow on fire, and the night sky. We were as creative as possible and had a blast playing around in the dark with our cameras. Good times in the desert!
There is a whole lot of this. Set up the camera and proper shutter speed, ISO and focus(which can be pretty tricky in the night if you have a mirror camera). Luckily I have a mirror-less camera with digital focus assist.
So you press the shutter release button and . . . wait. Take a sip of your whiskey. . . and wait. We were shooting with shutters open anywhere from 15 seconds to 60 seconds.
Here is an attempt to light Brillow on fire. If you don't know what Brillow is, it's steel wool caked with highly flammable cleaning chemicals.
Step one, attach Brillow to the end of rope.
Step two, light Brillow on fire.
Step 3, spin rope trying not to get hit by droplets of molten steel!
My attempt at capturing the Milky Way.
