And I brethren could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ... For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men. 1 Corinthians 3:1,3
In 1st Corinthians Chp 3 verses 1-3, Paul relates christian maturity to one's ability to live selflessly and in peace with one another. Which is unusual seeing that most people would define christian maturity as how much of the word you know, can pray or even how much you have increased in faith.
We would have to understand that there is a difference between growth and maturity. Growth is simply an increase in size, number or value of something whereas maturity has to do with the changes that take place thereafter. When a child increases in size, we say the child is growing. However it is when his thinking and actions begin to resemble that of a true adult that we say he's maturing.
In the same way, our increase in faith and the word adds to our growth and is good but it is when this increase begins to cause a change in our very lives; the way we talk, walk and relate to people, that we can actually say we are maturing. It is good to know the word yet this knowledge should not be for 'knowing' sake but with the hope and desire that it causes a change in us. Then we are maturing.
