A dreamcatcher is a handmade willow hoop, on which is woven a net or web. Dreamcatchers have really interesting patterns. Just like a spider web. They can be weaved in a net or web.
I wanted to make a life size dreamcatcher for a friends mud room. Right where the sunrises and a little of when it sets. I started with covering a hula hoop with jute twine.
Than i weaved the web with 9 points on the hula till i formed a small circular shape in the centre. I strung some beads into the web. Added some feathers and beads in the threads below. This is what i got:
Approx height of the hula is 5 feet and some inches. Sorry, don't have the exact figure :) Later on i also added some fairy lights woven into the web.
I also tried some other variations at another friends place with the hula. He wanted something to go behind his Shiva poster. Added some fairy lights too.
Weaving the web and the hula was a lot of fun and calming. I know what's it used for but different people have different notions and background about it. But no matter what the story behind it's origin or how it became popular, i love the patterns inside the hoop.
