I usually have absolutely no interest at all in commenting on political or world affairs, either at home here in the UK or across the world.
Big news and events come and go every day. It looks exhausting to keep up with and I have nothing of value to add to the discourse.
However, this image from today of Trump supporters storming the Capitol is genuinely terrifying.
I can’t entirely articulate why but there’s something so distressing about it.

(N.B I did not take this photo - I’m sharing it from an unknown source on Twitter)
I guess it’s that this photo is like a desperate scene from dystopian movie.
A symbol of the most powerful country in the world losing control.
A clamouring and aggressive crowd of overly privileged humans descending on the building which represent the pillars of power, to threaten and cause harm.
The photo also has an angle and feel that resembles images of subjects hanging on to dear life on the side of boat at sea.
Or a crowd escaping a lethal situation.
But this isn’t that.
It’s a mob of thousands attacking a building, in the name of a leader.
I’m all for sticking it to the establishment (a bit.. and peacefully) but this rings of tones far far too extreme for my liking.
It’s being normalised.
I can’t imagine this happening at the Houses of Parliament in London. Or being allowed to happen.
This to me is a symbol of the start of a sore conflict that will sadly begin divide and tear the US apart, in one way or another.
Some of the clips I’ve seen of smashing windows and destroying cameras of the media and journalists is a step too far.
I despair.
Sad times.
Fuck fascist Trump.
