It always happens to me that when I walk into Dollar City, I go in looking for one thing and end up finding a creative project that excites me. This time, I came across a kit for making macramé keychains, and honestly, I couldn’t resist. It came with everything I needed, and as soon as I got home, I wanted to get started. I love having these little projects on the side, in addition to my usual knitting and embroidery, because I feel like they help me unwind and try new techniques.
So without further ado, here are the materials and step-by-step instructions for this beautiful macramé keychain project.

Siempre me pasa que cuando entro a Dollarcity voy por una cosa y termino encontrando algún proyecto creativo que me emociona. Esta vez me encontré un kit para hacer llaveros en macramé y, sinceramente, no pude resistirme. Traía todo lo necesario y apenas llegué a casa quise comenzar. Me encanta tener estos pequeños proyectos aparte de mis tejidos y bordados habituales porque siento que me ayudan a desconectarme y probar técnicas nuevas.
Así que sin más, les comparto los materiales y el paso a paso de este hermoso proyecto de llaveros en macramé.
Materials
The kit came with everything you need, and that’s what I liked best. It included:
• Purple and fuchsia cord
• Wooden beads
• The metal keyring
• Extra cord for the final knot
Honestly, when a project comes with all the materials, you’re much more motivated to do it because there are no excuses not to get started.
Materiales
El kit venía súper completo y eso fue lo que más me gustó. Traía:
• Cordón en color morado y fucsia
• Cuentas de madera
• El llavero metálico
• Cordón adicional para el cierre final
La verdad es que cuando un proyecto ya trae todos los materiales, uno se anima muchísimo más a hacerlo porque no hay excusas para empezar.
Step by Step
The first thing I did was thread the 85-cm cords through the metal keyring to secure them tightly.
Then I tied lark’s head knots on each of the cords to secure them properly. That’s when the real concentration began. I then continued working with half double knots. I must admit that during that part I tried to do my best because it had been a while since I’d worked with this technique, and I’m still learning some macramé moves. Some knots require patience and practice. Even so, I really enjoyed the process.
When I finished the first part, I threaded the wooden bead onto the middle cords. That detail completely changed the design because it gave it a much more delicate and handcrafted finish. Then I continued making double-loop knots all around the bead to secure it firmly and shape the keychain.
To finish, I tied everything together using a joining knot with a 30 cm cord. Then I frayed the ends to create a small tassel, which was my favorite part because the keychain took on a style that I really like.
In the end, I was delighted with the result. Beyond how it turned out, I really enjoyed the moment of sitting quietly to create something with my hands.
Paso a paso
Lo primero que hice fue colocar los cordones de 85 cm en el llavero metálico para sujetarlos bien.
Después hice los nudos alondra en cada uno de los cordones para fijarlos correctamente. Ahí empezó la verdadera concentración. Luego seguí trabajando con nudos de medio enganche doble. Debo admitir que en esa parte traté de hacerlo lo mejor posible porque tenía tiempo que no tejía en esta técnica y todavía estoy aprendiendo algunos movimientos del macramé. Hay nudos que requieren paciencia y práctica. Aun así, disfruté muchísimo el proceso.
Cuando terminé la primera parte, introduje la cuenta de madera en los cordones del medio. Ese detalle cambió completamente el diseño porque le dio un acabado mucho más delicado y artesanal. Después continué haciendo nudos de enganche doble alrededor de toda la cuenta para sujetarla bien y darle forma al llavero.
Para finalizar, até todo usando un nudo de unión con un cordón de 30 cm. Luego despeiné las puntas para crear una pequeña borla, que fue mi parte favorita porque el llavero tomó un estilo que me gusta mucho.
Al final quedé encantada con el resultado. Más allá de cómo quedó, disfruté muchísimo el momento de sentarme tranquila a crear algo con mis manos.
