El COVID-19 es el virus que llegó y nos estremeció como humanidad. Nos sacó de nuestra cotidianidad y nos cambió la vida para siempre. Detuvo nuestra marcha en mitad de la carrera de la vida en la que no teníamos tiempo para nada y nos pegó contra la pared de la incertidumbre y del miedo.
COVID-19 is the virus that came and shook us as humanity. It took us out of our daily lives and changed our lives forever. It stopped us in our tracks in the middle of the race of life in which we had no time for anything and hit us against the wall of uncertainty and fear.
Desde diciembre de 2019, el mundo es otro y desde lejos veíamos cuántas víctimas ya se estaban contando por la letalidad de la enfermedad por Covid, en Wuhan, China donde empezó la epidemia y se extendió a otros continentes convirtiéndose en pandemia.
Since December 2019, the world is different and from afar we saw how many victims were already being counted by the lethality of the disease by Covid, in Wuhan, China where the epidemic began and spread to other continents becoming pandemic.
Nuestros pensamientos no paraban y solo nos hacían ver nuestra fragilidad ante este enemigo que nos atacaba inermes.
Our thoughts did not stop and only made us see our fragility before this enemy that attacked us helplessly.
A Venezuela llegó a inicios del 2020 y comenzó nuestra lucha para defendernos y evitar contagiarnos. Las recomendaciones mundiales eran mantener el distanciamiento social, el uso obligatorio del tapabocas y el lavado frecuente de las manos.
It arrived in Venezuela at the beginning of 2020 and our struggle to defend ourselves and avoid contagion began. The worldwide recommendations were to maintain social distancing, the mandatory use of masks and frequent hand washing.
Con el distanciamiento llegó el confinamiento. Todos debíamos encerrarnos, protegernos. Las reflexiones ocuparon nuestro tiempo. Añoramos la familia, los encuentros, el trabajo y la rutina; pero la prioridad era y sigue siendo, ahora mucho más, cuidarnos, cuidarnos y cuidarnos.
With estrangement came confinement. We all had to lock ourselves in, to protect ourselves. Reflections occupied our time. We longed for family, meetings, work and routine; but the priority was and still is, now much more, to take care of ourselves, to take care of ourselves and to take care of ourselves.
Seguimos todas las medidas de prevención y protección al pie de la letra. Vimos pasar cada mes y agradecíamos haberlo superado. Aún las víctimas eran distantes, desconocidas, pero igual nos lamentamos por tantas pérdidas. Pasó el 2020 y alzamos la copa de la gratitud por la vida, por la salud.
We followed all prevention and protection measures to the letter. We watched each month go by and were grateful that we had made it through. The victims were still distant, unknown, but we still mourned for so many losses. 2020 passed and we raised the glass of gratitude for life, for health.
El 2021, tiene otro aire, una atmósfera lúgubre se percibe. El enemigo ha avanzado. Muy doloroso es saber que los que están perdiendo la batalla contra esta enfermedad son personas conocidas, colegas, amigos.
The 2021, has another air, a gloomy atmosphere is perceived. The enemy has advanced. It is very painful to know that those who are losing the battle against this disease are acquaintances, colleagues, friends.
Afortunadamente, en mi entorno familiar no ha habido víctimas. Hemos sido cuidadosos todos, más con nuestros adultos mayores, a quienes hemos resguardado con celo. Pero no hay que bajar la guardia, nuevas cepas acechan. Hay que extremar las medidas. Y cuidarnos sigue siendo la prioridad. Si usando el tapabocas nos estamos protegiendo, no dejemos de usarlo; dejemos los abrazos y encuentros para cuando el virus nos dé una tregua.
Fortunately, there have been no casualties in my family environment. We have all been careful, especially with our elderly, whom we have guarded with zeal. But we must not let our guard down; new strains are lurking. We must take extreme measures. And taking care of ourselves remains the priority. If we are protecting ourselves by wearing a mask, let's not stop wearing it; let's leave the hugs and meetings for when the virus gives us a break.
Confío que llegará el día, y aunque no sea igual que antes, podremos salir a la vida, a un nuevo estilo de vida.
I am confident that the day will come, and although it will not be the same as before, we will be able to go out into life, into a new lifestyle.
Además de todas las recomendaciones conocidas, mantengamos el miedo lejos. Vivamos plenamente cada día, agradeciendo todo, amando a nuestros seres queridos, confiando que en nosotros está la fortaleza y las defensas contra el virus y rogando al Dios de nuestra fe que nos dé paz y tranquilidad para continuar en este camino.
In addition to all the known recommendations, let us keep fear away. Let us live fully each day, being grateful for everything, loving our loved ones, trusting that in us is the strength and defenses against the virus and praying to the God of our faith to give us peace and tranquility to continue on this path.
Elevo mi plegaria por todos los enfermos en el mundo, por todos los enfermos en mi país.
I raise my prayer for all the sick in the world, for all the sick in my country.
