The last post pretty much ended up like this:-
He fitted a Chrysler V8 engine in it with an Auto Box, pulled really well! Made the mistake of letting My Mother Drive it to the Shops! ( will save that for another Story)
My Mother ( terrible Driver) went down to the local supermarket , parked behind a Citroen ( see video) came back to the Jag started it, stalled, started again , revved hard and pushed the D button instead of R , parked less than a metre behind the Citroen . She hit it so hard that none of the Citroen's doors would open , and it ended in the middle of the road!
My Dad was not amused!
All that was wrong with the Jaguar , was a small scratch on the Bumper!
A Race-Tuned MK 1
Some interesting Jaguar Race Cars
I often worked shifts and Overtime at the Post Office those days, recall coming home at about 3am one morning with the Coombs MK 2 , on the Main Reef Road , there was a long S-Bend , doing about 130mph , no other Traffic around , as I came around the long right hander , there was a Horse and Trailer ( the Truck type) right across the road , knew I could not stop in time, touched the Handbrake, started it spinning around , came to a halt about 2 metres from the unit .
Not sure who was more pale ?, the truck driver or me!
He had been trying to turn the truck around!
In late 1973 ( 14 November) The OPEC Oil Embargoes caused our Urban and Rural speed limits to go to 50kph and 80kph respectively , making my Coombs Jag undriveable!
I had put a 2.4 MK1 together for Chris to drive prior to this and she used it as a family car for many years.
I love reminiscing on these bits of Automotive History!
