Kolintang or kulintang is music that is widely available in Indonesia. In tourist areas such as Bali and Yogyakarta, the arrival of guests at the hotel is greeted with typical kolintang music.
The sound doesn't come from an electronic device, but a pure kolintang played by a number of people. In Balinese hotels, the rhythm is faster and louder. In Yogya it is softer. At least that's what I heard in Bali Yogya.
Several of references say, the kolintang or kulintang is a musical instrument consisting of a row of small gongs that are placed horizontally. Kolintang is part of Southeast Asian culture that has been played for centuries.
While staying at a hotel in Yogya, some time ago, in the dining room we were greeted with gentle kolintang blows. While enjoying breakfast, guests are accompanied by kolintang music. His voice was melodious, like the sound of music from another planet. []
