Teuku Umar University (UTU) in Meulaboh, West Aceh (Indonesia) has taken decisive action to safeguard the integrity of the 2026 Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) for the National Test-Based Selection (SNBT). The university has stated that it will not allow any form of cheating that could undermine the sportsmanship of the new student selection process.
The Coordinator of the UTU UTBK Test Center, Herri Darsan, ST., MT., explained that this policy was taken as a precautionary measure against various cheating methods that have been rampant at several universities in previous years. The use of jockeys and the use of illegal digital communication devices have been a major focus of attention for the committee this year. Herri stated that his team continues to monitor and collect data on potential violations to ensure the exam runs smoothly at UTU.
As a concrete demonstration of this firmness, UTU has implemented a multi-layered screening procedure for all participants. Herri Darsan explained that every participant must undergo strict identity verification before being allowed into the exam area to ensure no illegal participants or impersonators infiltrate.
"We're taking security seriously this year. Every participant will be screened using a metal detector to ensure no hidden communication devices, such as mini earphones or cameras, are brought into the exam room. Participants are only permitted to bring their exam cards to their desks, while other items must be stored in the designated area. We have also provided our proctors and technicians with special training to enhance their awareness of various new cheating methods," said Herri Darsan.
In addition to physical monitoring, the readiness of the information technology system is also a priority. UTU's ICT Coordinator, Dr. Murhaban, ST., M.Cs., guaranteed that the digital infrastructure used was maximally protected. The technical team conducted a thorough audit of each computer unit before the exam began. This step aims to ensure the devices are free of prohibited applications, such as remote control software (remote desktop) or screen-splitting applications often used to steal questions.
In addition to system security, an internal security team is also deployed at each exam location to respond quickly to any indication of violations. The university reminds participants not to attempt any illegal activities. If evidence of fraud is found, UTU will not hesitate to hand over the perpetrators to the police for criminal prosecution in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.[]
