My wife and I went to a beautiful wedding reception today. I was pleasantly surprised when she willingly posed with me for her first Steemit photo!
I was sitting there enjoying myself, dining on delicious food, listening to great music and enjoying the company. I was also thinking about Steemit and how awesome it would be if my wife were on Steemit as well. She is very active on the centralized social networks and I want her to give Steemit a shot. Once we have her on board she will never look back.
I met this beautiful woman over 15 years ago when I was travelling in Nicaragua, Central America. She is a native Nicaraguan. She stole my heart the moment I saw her. We made eye contact the moment she walked through the door and my world and hers stood still. She turned around and walked away, but somehow I knew I would see her again.
We fell in love over the next few months and when I had to return to the U.S. I continued writing and calling her. Her letters were poetic and the most romantic and loving words I had ever read. I made up my mind that I was going to return to Nicaragua and marry her.
And that is exactly what I did. On February 16, 2002, we were united in matrimony in Nicaragua. A few months later we made the journey to the U.S.
We started with virtually nothing. I got a part time job loading truck trailers by hand. It was hard work and the pay was about $100 a week. We lived on $20 a week for groceries. I don’t know how we ever survived those years. They were hard, but they were beautiful at the same time.
We both worked hard and got better jobs and now we are doing better than ever before. I still feel she deserves more than I can provide for her.
I think she has so much untapped potential. I have tried to encourage her to start a little business like a fashion boutique with clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. She thinks it’s a silly idea. But she really does have a knack for beauty. I think she could help a lot of other girls and women look and feel more beautiful.
Maybe if this post does well she will decide to sign up on Steemit herself and share her posts with all her friends and acquaintances in the U.S. and in Nicaragua!
Regardless of what happens, I will love and cherish her more and more each day. I will do my best to make sure she knows how special she is.
The wedding reception we attended today gave me the opportunity to reflect on the beauty of two people falling in love and making the decision to spend their lives together. I reflected on the wonderful years my wife and I have spent together and the two amazing boys she has given me. I am thankful she is still by my side- hopefully for many years to come.
