Hello friends,
Greetings
I hope the week is going fine with you all, my week is going fine. It’s just filled with a sweet/bitter feeling. A friend so dear to my heart is migrating to another country. I am happy that he is relocating to his dream country, at the same time I am sad because I will miss him. Well, let’s move to an amazing local recipe I will love to share with you all today. It’s called Akara also known as Bean cake. This food dates its origin to the western part of Nigeria. It is served to special visitors as well as during traditional rites. It is one food that is served around the world as a form of breakfast and it can move in combination with other foods like bread, pap, tea etc. it’s very easy to cook and less time consuming once the right preparations are made.
INGREDIENTS
- Beans
- groundnut oil
- fresh pepper
- onions
- salt
PREPARATION
- wash Bean seeds properly, so as to separate the outer body or chaff.
wash your onions and pepper properly.
place your washed beans into the blender, add the pepper and onions as well as very little water to help grind them. Grind them until a smooth paste is gotten.
This is what it looks like, after grinding.
place the grinder purée in a mortar, with the help of a pistol, grind further in a circular motion, so as to ensure that no lumps are formed. Add little salt.
- Place your groundnut oil on fire. Ensure it is well heated before adding your bean purée.
- using your hand or a spoon, pour some Bean purée into the hot oil, ensure that it forms a ball, when placing it in the hot oil. Fry on medium heat, until it turns golden brown.
- This is the final results of my Akara or Bean cake.
I served mine, with pap. Making pap is very simple, but most people find it difficult to make a thick pap. It’s either their pap is too watery or made up of lumps. Maybe I will make a post on how to make proper pap.
Thank you for reading and supporting my post. I hope this was helpful.
See you in my next post.
