Hello Hivian, how are you all doing? Hope all of you are well Yes, I know it's been a while and I thoroughly missed being on this platform but no worries I am up and good and going strong.
Now to respond to the prompt by I would like to share my thoughts and perspectives on a 2018 movie I watched not so long ago. The movie titled ACRIMONY was written and directed by Tyler Perry and it stars Taraji P Henson as Melinda, lyriq Bent as Robert, and Crystle Stewart as Diana, as the main characters.
Before I go ahead to unleash my thoughts and questions about this movie, I would like to say that the actors played their characters well, the movie was mind-boggling and Brain storming taking you through a myriad of emotions.
I am grateful I get to share my thoughts and deep-seated questions about the movie on this platform. So let's not get bored, follow me as I dive into the movie plot, here goes nothing.........
The movie begins with Melinda meeting Robert at school, at first she erupts but later they clicked and began dating after her mother's funeral.
Melinda was left a large sum of money by her mom and she was advised not to tell Robert about it by her elder siblings, this advice of course was not adhered to as she began spending the money on Robert ( here, I guess that Melinda suffers from insecurity and low self-worth).
Moving on she buys Robert a car and I could see that Robert had a huge influence on her as she seems to do things for him against her better judgment e night, she goes to pay him a visit at his apartment only to catch him cheating with Diana, who I guess is also a girl from college.
In a rage, Melinda slams her car into his apartment probably to kill them both or injure them, which I feel was a dumb move on her part, but this backfires as it led to her having serious injuries and even having a hysterectomy ( surgical womb removal).
I feel at this point that she risked too much for a guy who did not cherish her as much as she cherished him. I also feel that ladies should learn to love themselves more and not place that huge obligation on their partner because no one can do the job better than you.
If you do not love yourself much, those around you won't love you as much either. OK, back to the movie, in that Melinda and Robert get married and have been married for 18 years, she is like the breadwinner of the home while Robert is seen with his project which he dreams of selling to the highest bidder (you would think that marriage would be satisfying, but not so for this couple).
Robert later joined Melinda's family catering business as a delivery man on one of his routes, he encounters Diana. Diana's wallet which fell by accident was discovered by one of Melinda's family and assumptions began to on Robert.
Claims of him cheating on Melinda causes a strain on their relationship. Diana who works as an assistant to Presscott, the Same guy that Robert wants to sell his projects to, helped him arrange a meeting with Prescott they offered to pay him $800,000 for the revolutionary battery.
When Miranda found out she was furious and filed for a divorce and kicked him out. Well, good old Diana found out and insisted on him coming to live with her, which he did. Diana also helps him seal the deal with Prescott and Robert is offered a multimillion-dollar deal, making his dreams come through.
Robert gifts Melinda ten million dollars as an apology and also buys her house back for her. Melinda is surprised when she realized that the 118-year-long dream has finally been birthed. She tried to seduce Robert but that did not work as Diana was already claiming territory as his fiance.
Melinda was hurt and angry, which confuses me because she asked for a divorce. She tried all she could to separate them but nothing worked. At last, she sneaked into their honeymoon cruiser and tries to kill Diana but she failed.
She then tried to kill Robert but the anchor dragged her into the sea causing her to drown, leaving an injured Robert along with Diana and some surviving crew members.
I think I can ask my deep-seated questions now;
"Why did Melinda and Robert get married?" Why didn't they adopt kids I know the joys that children bring to a home. Why was Melinda so impulsive and impatient, she could have been the one enjoying with Robert instead of Diana.
After all, she stayed for 118 years she could've still stayed a while longer. Also to me, I think Diana's character was not so clear from the beginning.
She was the cause of Melinda reacting angrily or would you that Diana was a god sent to Roberts? I would love to hear your thoughts on this movie.
Ask yourself who was wrong and who was right amongst Melinda, Robert, and Diana.
Thanks for reading....peace
