ACRYLIC & GRAPHITE ON ILLUSTRATION BOARD
This is one of my older works and is similar in concept to the painting I posted yesterday. CLICK HERE if you wish to view that post. This image is an old store front from downtown Columbus, Indiana. I used a photograph I had taken as a resource for drawing. I have lost track of the number of businesses that have been at this location. I believe at present it is a mom and pop restaurant.
Just for fun I began manipulating my painting in Photoshop. I found many different filters that gave it new looks. This is one of the ones I liked best.
ABOUT THE POEM
I am usually making illustrations to go along with poems I have written, in other words the poem comes before the illustration. In this case however the illustration proceeded the poem, the means the picture inspired the words.
SHARKS SENSING BLOOD CIRCLE THE ARK OF THE COVENANT
No one is able to explain the graffiti
or why people think it's significant
that pinwheels of color
surround a white cross.
Otto proclaims
the Templars were here.
My daughter is frightened as strangers
dig pits in the forrest.
The sun shines a narrowing beam
though a hole in a rock.
At midnight a small spot of light
argues the existence of God
as it writes on the whitewash
of an unoccupied storefront.
A geological map is found in the library.
It shows a labyrinth of caves
that run to the sea.
It seems funny that no one believes
yet everyone is looking.
