About the Poem
In this poem a women, desperate for a relationship, hooks up with the wrong sort of guy. The woman is strong willed and believes she can change him, but in the end he is what he is.
Away from the River's Main Channel
River Angel
Thick-bodied and heavy-boned
a fleshy peach-of-a-gal
whose tugboat frame nudges
and pushes until things start
to move her direction.
It is no big surprise she is tied
to a ponderous barge of a man
who spends his nights
drifting alone bar to bar
until he hits bottom.
