Another place I visited during my trip to the Paria Peninsula was the beach at the port of Carúpano, also known as the fishing pier. Located in the El Boquete sector, it's notable for its cliff with large brown and black limestone rocks, the beach below, and an abandoned ship that reminds me of pirate lore.
I think the ship must have been there for several years, because it's already brown and rusty, similar to those found in pirate and privateer stories where abandoned ships lie at the bottom of the sea. Unlike the ships in those stories, this one sits at the base of the cliff and is constantly battered by the waves.
During my visit to this beautiful place, surrounded by the beach and a large rock wall that forms the pier, located at the highest point of the cliff, I met several fishermen engaged in their artisanal fishing. Among the fish they caught, a moray eel caught my eye. It's a fish with characteristics similar to a snake, and according to the man, it shares several traits with eels, as it transmits currents and tends to be aggressive when handled.
After catching it, the man placed it on the rock and then put it in a basket with the other fish. Besides its large rocks, the fishing port is notable for the strong breeze and the waves. According to what I gathered from the fishermen, the best time to fish is in the morning, because in the afternoon the breeze intensifies, and consequently, so do the waves. I got as close as I could to the edge of the cliff, and indeed, the force of the water produces a light mist that splashes my skin. The path to the cliff must be taken with great care, because a slip means falling onto the beach, and since there are many rocks, it's best to proceed slowly and with firm steps. On the way to the fishing area, I walked carefully along the shore, observing the scenery, spotting some crabs, and the force with which the waves crash against the rocks. I really enjoyed this scene because the ebb and flow of the waves creates a beautiful, relaxing sound as they hit the rocks, then recede and crash against them again. This cycle of the waves is an opportunity to spot crabs climbing the rocks or trying to escape the force of the water, which carries them to another place and interrupts the route they've planned for their journey.
Otro de los lugares que pude visitar durante mi viaje a la península de paria, fue la playa del puerto de Carúpano también conocida como muelle pesquero, se ubica en el sector El boquete y destaca por el acantilado con grandes rocas calizas de color marrón y negro, la playa en la parte de abajo y un barco abandonado que me recuerda la historia de los piratas.
El barco pienso que debe tener varios años en el lugar, porque ya se ve de color marrón y oxidado semejante a los que aparecen en las historias de piratas y corsarios donde se consiguen barcos abandonados en el fondo del mar; a diferencia de los barcos que aparecen en tales historias, este se ubica en la parte baja del acantilado y constantemente es golpeado por las olas.
Durante el recorrido por este hermoso lugar, rodeado por la playa, y un gran muro de rocas que forma el muelle, ubicado en el punto más alto del acantilado, pude coincidir con varios pescadores que se encontraban en su faena, de pesca artesanal, entre los peces que sacaron llamó mi atención una Morena, es un pez con características similares a una serpiente y según la explicación del señor, comparte varios aspectos con las anguilas, pues transmite corriente y suele ser agresiva cuando se le manipula.
Luego de pescarla, el señor la colocó en la roca, para posteriormente almacenarla en una cesta con los otros peces, el puerto pesquero además de sus grandes rocas resalta por la fuerte brisa y el oleaje, según lo que pude conversar con los pescadores la mejor hora para realizar esta actividad es en la mañana, porque ya en horas de la tarde se intensifica la brisa y por ende las olas, me acerqué lo más que pude al extremo del acantilado y efectivamente la fuerza del agua, produce una pequeña llovizna que salpica la piel; el trayecto hacia el acantilado hay que hacerlo con mucho cuidado, porque un resbalón significa caer en la playa y como hay muchas rocas, lo mejor es avanzar lento y con pasos firmes, en el trayecto para llegar a la zona de pesca, caminé por la orilla con mucho cuidado, observando el paisaje, viendo algunos cangrejos y la fuerza con la que las olas chocan con las rocas, este escenario me gustó mucho, porque el ir y venir de las olas, crean un hermoso sonido relajante al pegar con las rocas, se devuelven y nuevamente vuelven a golpear la rocas, este ciclo de las olas es una oportunidad para avistar cangrejos trepando las rocas o queriendo huir de la incidencia del agua, que los lleva a otro lugar e interrumpen la ruta que han ideado para salir a pasear.
The cliff's topography struck me as interesting because it features several cavities sculpted by water, resembling a cave. These cavities serve as shelters or hiding places for various animals. It's common to find crabs, snails, clams, and mussels there, which, moved by the water, attach themselves to the rock formations.
The view from this vantage point is beautiful. You can see the vast expanse of the beach, the sky, and the rocks that contrast with the surroundings, creating a stunning seascape—perfect for enjoying the breeze and relaxing.
Then I went down several meters along the cliff, very close to the abandoned ship. Here you can feel the strength of the waves and how they crash against the rocks. You can also see part of the mountain and a rocky path, very slippery indeed, and moss. In this area, you can see the moss covering the rocks, small plants and grasses scattered among the rocks and sand. Next, a view of the waves crashing against the rocks and the color of the water, which is between blue and green. There are also some reddish plants located on the rocky and sandy path.
La topografía del acantilado me pareció interesante, ya que presenta varias cavidades esculpidas por el agua, que recuerdan a una cueva. Estas cavidades sirven de refugio o escondite para diversos animales. Es común encontrar cangrejos, caracoles, almejas y mejillones, que, movidos por el agua, se adhieren a las formaciones rocosas.
La vista desde este punto es preciosa. Se puede apreciar la inmensidad de la playa, el cielo y las rocas que contrastan con el entorno, creando un paisaje marino impresionante, perfecto para disfrutar de la brisa y relajarse.
Luego bajé varios metros por el acantilado, muy cerca del barco abandonado, aquí se siente lo fuerte de la olas y como golpean al chocar con las rocas, también se observa parte de la montaña y un sendero de rocas, muy resbaladizo por cierto, además y musgo, en esta área se ve el musgo que cubre las rocas, pequeñas plantas y gramas diseminadas entre las rocas y la arena, a continuación una vista de las olas al chocar con las rocas y el color del agua que se observa entre azul y verde, también unas plantas de color rojizo ubicadas en el sendero de las rocas y arena.
