The manufacturer, "CSL Behring," set the price of the new medication "Hemgenix" at $ 3.5 million per dose, making it the most expensive medication in the world. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the drug's marketing for the treatment of hemophilia.
The genetic bleeding disorder hemophilia causes the blood to clot improperly. Both spontaneous bleeding and bleeding after an accident or surgery may come from this. Blood contains many clotting proteins that can assist in halting bleeding.
Despite its high cost, the medication will "significantly lower the burden of hemophilia B by reducing annual bleed rates, reducing or eliminating prophylactic therapy, and generating elevated [factor] IX levels that endure for years," claims CSL Behring in a statement provided to Fierce Pharma.
