So, as a musician we form strong attachments to the instruments that we use to express ourselves. It is a strong partnership, that is forged from countless hours of working together.
Today, I introduce my first two partners.
The violin is a lovely dark sounding violin that is currently on loan to me. It is by an anonymous maker from around 1770. It is currently strung with heavy gut strings (3 naked guts on the top, and one silver would gut on the bottom) and it is an absolute joy to play!
The second part of this pairing is a great copy of a Baroque bow by an Australian maker. People often forget the bow when talking about violins, but it is the breath of the instrument, and thus essential for the creation of your sound!
This a lovely snakewood bow with ivory fittings. It is also fluted, which seems to give it a crisp fast attack which I enjoy very much!
