These series will begin inspired by . I've been watching his house renovation project for a while and while doing my house restoration as well I've been taking before and after pictures and videos. So maybe i'll share a few things people will find interesting as i am sure we are not just the two of us here on Hive doing repairs i'm sure.
This picture was done almost exactly one year ago, when i have arrived to spend summer in my grandma's house, that has sadly passed away a few years ago. The intent was to escape the concrete of capital city for 3-4 months and work on basic improvements of the house if we decide to sell it in the future.
It's clearly obvious that house was standing empty for a few years already as lush vegetation started taking over. It's amazing how little time is needed for nature to take over... If you enter this door you'd get into three small spaces with no clear purpose, so I've decided to turn it into a quite spacious bathroom. I LOVE SPACIOUS BATHROOMS.
The first part is relatively easy. Demolition. You must be careful not to move supporting walls, so that the building would not collapse on your head. The rest is pretty straightforward. For that purpose i have bough a heavy sledgehammer. Perfect investment and i have used it many times after. So get a good one, there is always some use for it.
I have moved the walls in a day and got out all the rubbish. The rubbish pile tarted building up. I did not expect it to grow so big then, but that's in following stories.
TIP: For this stage you need four tools. Two are essential: sledgehammer and a cart to move the rubbish. I would also highly suggest getting a good mask or respirator and a set of protective eye-wear.
At the time i started Covid was not around and i could easily buy a good respirator but i went with a protective mask. I'd suggest spending a few extra bucks and getting a good respirator with interchangeable filters. You'd be eating and spitting less dust and it would help if there is a second Covid wave :)
